SeabuckWonders sea buckthorn oil is dermatologist recommended! Dr. Ryan B. Turner, a board-certified dermatologist who received his medical doctorate from Harvard Medical School and now practices cosmetic dermatology, general dermatology, and surgical dermatology in New York City, confirms the benefits of our sea buckthorn oil and recommends our sea buckthorn oil dropper bottles.

"Sea buckthorn oil is rich in vitamins C and E, omega-7 fatty acids, and powerful antioxidants, which promote skin hydration, elasticity, and restoration. Its calming properties can help soothe irritation, reduce redness, and support the healing of skin. Additionally, the active compounds within sea buckthorn oil are known to help protect the skin from environmental stressors and improve overall skin texture, making it a valuable addition to any skincare formulation."

In 2023, Dr. Turner was featured in Real Simple Magazine in an article discussing sea buckthorn oil and its benefits in skincare and cosmetics. Dr. Turner affirms that in addition to the wide range of Omega fatty acids present in sea buckthorn oil, the “phytosterols, amino acids, and minerals contribute to its nourishing and rejuvenating qualities.” Moreover, Dr. Turner says “sea buckthorn oil may also facilitate wound healing and tissue repair, owing to its regenerative properties and anti-inflammatory effects.”

Why is sea buckthorn oil orange colored?

Organic sea buckthorn seed oil and berry oil both contain an array of skin-nourishing omega fatty acids and bioactive nutrients that are 100% naturally found in sea buckthorn. Our sea buckthorn berry oil contains vitamins E and K, flavonoids, linoleic acid, palmitoleic acid, and high levels of carotenoids. Just like in carrots, the beta-carotene and carotenoids give sea buckthorn its orange color that may also help heal sun damage to the skin, which is a great way to boost your skincare routine.

How does sea buckthorn oil help heal wounds?

The regenerative properties of sea buckthorn oil is owed to the Omega-7 content, the anti-inflammatory action of which may aid in healing wounds during the phase of tissue rebuilding. Sea buckthorn oil contains many of the same fatty acids that our skin is naturally made from, meaning it can help rebuild and nourish skin, as well as offer benefits for every skin type including sensitive skin.

How can you tell which sea buckthorn oil is the best quality?

“When used in cosmetics, sea buckthorn oil is often acquired through a cold-press extraction process,” explains Dr. Turner. SeabuckWonders’ sea buckthorn oil, however, is extracted using the supercritical CO2 method. This method produces the highest quality sea buckthorn oil over cold-pressing since the extraction temperatures are even colder! Supercritical CO2 is also the most environmentally-friendly way to extract the oils, leaving no solvents or impurities behind in the process.

Supercritical CO2 is the best way to extract oil from sea buckthorn seeds over cold-pressing because the seeds are very small, like the seeds from a kiwi. Sea buckthorn berries have enough volume from the pulp that you can extract oil using a cold press, but sea buckthorn seed oil cannot. The seeds are so small that cold-pressing cannot efficiently extract its oils.

Should you take sea buckthorn seed oil or berry oil?

In most cases, we recommend using both the organic seabuckthorn seed and berry oil so that you can get the full spectrum of benefits from sea buckthorn. A blend of sea buckthorn seed and berry oils, our dietary supplement Omega-7 Complete is our best-seller for this reason. To get the full benefits of sea buckthorn oil used topically in your skincare routine, “it can be used alone or along with moisturizer and oil blends,” Dr. Turner says. “It is best applied after cleansing the face. However, if you have a multistep skin care routine, remember to apply oils at the end of your routine, as oils can block the absorption of any product that comes after it.” SeabuckWonders offers our WonderCare kits as a four-step total skincare routine to meet skincare needs for all skin types. Our popular WonderCare REVIVE Kit features our Enhydro Revive serum, formulated with a blend of skin-loving oils including one of Dr. Turner’s favorite moisturizing ingredients, jojoba oil, in addition to sea buckthorn oil.
