Long before science was able to decipher the complex nutritional makeup of sea buckthorn, the ancient people knew that there was something very special about this plant. One of the constituents of sea buckthorn that modern researchers have discovered in the berries from the plant is Omega 7, a fatty acid also known as palmitoleic acid.
Over Processed Does Not Mean Purified
Omega-7 can also be found in fish oil. Although there are small amounts of Omega-7 in some fish, it is hardly enough to consider it a very good source at all. In order to make an Omega-7 product from fish a heavy, industrial process must be done. The final product is referred to as “purified” Omega-7 which can be widely found in the market today.
The heavy processing we mentioned before can create less than desirable effects. The goal is to isolate the Omega-7 from any other nutrient that may exist in the fish. This process creates industrial waste and requires that the fish be heated to high temperatures. Not only does isolating oils make them become unstable, the high temperatures needed to process fish often damage the nutritional content of the fish. Another downside is that many harsh chemicals, like hexane, are often needed to process fish.
Total Fatty Acids
Natural & Pure
Our sea buckthorn oils are extracted using C02 supercritical extraction. This too, sounds like a heavy industrial process. The truth is that is it the gentlest way to process sea buckthorn, with no industrial waste left behind. This low heat process helps maintain as much of the chemical makeup of the sea buckthorn berries and seeds as possible.
Specific nutrients are not isolated in our oils, so they retain a perfect balance of Omegas, vitamins and nutrients. This makes the oil more beneficial and easier for your body to process. Omega-7 is extremely hard to find in nature and only a select few plant and animal sources have it. Not only does sea buckthorn have the highest concentration of the fatty acid, it has many, many more vitamins and nutrients than fish have naturally! The complex nutrients work synergystically to create an exceptionally powerful supplement. Not to mention, since the oils are more stable, they have a much longer shelf life and do not need to be refrigerated. The odds of a sea buckthorn oil product going rancid are much smaller than a fish oil supplement going bad.
You will not be able to find a fish oil based Omega-7 supplement that is also USDA Certified Organic. That is because as of 2015, there are no USDA Certified Organic sea foods or other fish products. All of our oils are 100% USDA Organic Certified and sea buckthorn as a crop can be incredibly beneficial.
The only argument many fish-oil companies can think of against sea buckthorn is that it also contains palmitic acid. While it is true that sea buckthorn contains palmitic acid, this argument is not strong enough not to take sea buckthorn oil. We encourage you to follow this link for more information if this is something that you are worried about. But first we will leave you with a fact: human breast milk is nearly 70% palmitic acid.
