Let's Talk About Purified Omega-7

There is no doubt that Omega 7 is becoming one of the most popular Omega supplements. More people are learning about the benefits of this fatty acid and as a result there are lots of new products on the market. As a consumer, it can be hard to navigate the sea of information and products out there.

What is Omega 7 and Where Does It Come From?

Palmitoleic acid (Omega 7) is a fatty acid that naturally exists in sea buckthorn berries, macadamia nuts, algae and in small amounts in some fish. Omega 7 is known for aiding with heart health and supporting cellular health. Check out this page about the many health benefits of Omega 7.

What Does “Purified” Really Mean?

Our SeabuckWonders Oils are created using a process called Co2 Supercritical extraction. We chose this method because it is the gentlest and least damaging to the final product. Sea buckthorn does not have any contaminants or impurities that need to be removed before the final product is completed (which is not true of fish oil). In fact, we want to keep as much as what is naturally in the berries and seeds of sea buckthorn as possible. The temperature in the Co2 S.E. process is even lower than that of cold pressing, which means less damage to the nutritional content of the oil.

Fish oil is a different story entirely. Yes, some fish oil companies do use Co2 extraction but it is the last step in a process of even more processing. The fish must be heated to high temperatures and turned into a fish meal before any other steps can happen. In order In order to separate the oil from the fish, then separate the omegas from the oil, a lot of processing must be done. What’s worse is that some of these processes include heavy solvents that can contaminate the product and leave behind industrial waste.

Isolated Isn’t Really Better

Since the final fish oil product is meant to be an isolated omega with no other nutrients, the oil is stripped down. Isolated oils and vitamins act differently in the body than food does. When you eat vitamins in food, the vitamins naturally come with other vitamins and nutrients.

Sea  buckthorn oil is a whole oil, meaning it comes in a nutritional package that is naturally balanced. Sea buckthorn retains much of its natural chemical composition after processing. It has a full profile of nutrients and vitamins which are easily used by the body. Fish oil supplements just aren’t natural.

Not only is sea buckthorn more easily consumed by the body, it naturally has lots of other beneficial vitamins and nutrients that your body needs.

A Note on Palmitic Acid

The biggest argument against sea buckthorn oil as a source of Omega 7 right now is the presence of palmitic acid in the fruit. Though this argument is widely used, it doesn’t exactly hold water when you look at the facts. Please read this article for more on this subject.

  • Sea buckthorn only has about 1% of the recommended daily allowance of palmitic acid (that’s tiny)
  • Sea buckthorn’s natural constituents of other healthy fats and antioxidants prevent adverse palmitic acid reactions
  • Palmitic acid is only dangerous when isolated or consumed in high amounts
  • The argument against SBT as the best source of Omega 7 is not based in reality and is simply marketing!

SeabuckWonders uses the gentlest process to extract our 100% USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified Oils. Everyone can take sea buckthorn oil no matter what their dietary preference is. There are so many other health benefits that can be reaped from SBT oil that cannot from fish oil. No industrial chemicals are used to enhance or isolate the Omegas in our oils. The benefits of sea buckthorn oil far outweigh the benefits of fish oil.
